Dementia and OCD

OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) effects people in two key ways, and they are obsessiveness and compulsiveness, though they not necessarily linked to real life issues.

Dementia can further affect OCD, as the memory can speed cognitive decline, raise anxiety and bring on depression.

This can be seen as increased repetition takes over and tasks become harder for the individual in question, causing them to become increasingly frustrated, angry and often aggressive.

That is why GP’s tend to look at all areas of symptoms separately and treat them individually.

Our part to play with OCD and dementia, is to be mindful of this and log our findings, to distract the individual to other subjects, suggest alternatives and keep all other medical professionals in the loop, with our findings.
